35 MHz Notice:

Please note that the following 3 frequencies are prone to harmonic interference from the masts.

  • 35.100 (Spot 70)
  • 35.110 (Spot 71)
  • 35.120 (Spot 72)

Please refrain from using these frequencies at the event as you will be "shot-down".

2.4 GHz Notice:

We are awaiting SAMAA's official response regarding the number of simultaneous radio signals operating on 2.4 GHz. The rumour is that only 16 radios may operate at any given time. The website will be updated once we have official confirmation for or against.

There is still no official stand by SAMAA on the 2.4 GHz band. There is a comment document by Dave Armitage on the SAMAA site, here. As such we will not be restricting the number of 2.4 GHz operators as AMA has hosted National events where 100 odd pilots had simultaneous use of the 2.4 GHz band.

For the purposes of the Hermanus flying event, we will be adopting a new flightline management protocol.

Flightline Management in the 2.4 GHz age:

Due to the increased use of 2.4 GHz sets we will be using the following system to manage the flightlines:

  • 27/35/53/54 MHz users must ALWAYS book a time slot on the booking sheet, irrespective of which flightline they are flying on.
  • 2.4 GHz users must only book a time slot on the booking sheet if flying on the Glass flightline.
  • 2.4 GHz users flying on the foam flightline are not permitted to book a slot - they must just fly.

The reasoning: Pilots flying on the Glass flightline may want to fly during a period of less activity. By providing them a means of determining how busy the sky is, it will make the time-slot booking process simpler.
